The adaptation of the Carmen de la Antequeruela into the Manuel de Falla House-Museum tried to preserve the atmosphere in which the musician lived with an unprecedented meticulousness, respecting even the dampness and the rosettes on the walls or the disorder of the drawers where he kept his medicines. Falla’s biographer, Manuel Orozco, faithful to this peculiar hyperrealism, said that the house should give the visitor the impression that the maestro had gone out and would be back in a while.
The brilliant composer from Cádiz lived here with his sister María del Carmen between 1922 and 1939. The house maintains the atmosphere that inspired his great works: Master Peter’s Puppet Show, Psyche, Concerto for harpsichord and five instruments, Sonnet to Córdoba, Tributes to Arbós and Dukas, Atlántida…
From here he left for Argentina, leaving Granada, the city he loved so much, all the personal objects and memories that show the man he was.
To visit the museum today is to discover the intimate life of a genius and to participate in the place where the greatest representatives of Spanish culture of the first half of the 20th century coexisted.
