Láchar Castle is a palace built by Duke San Pedro de Galatino in the late nineteenth century. It is registered as a Building of Cultural Interest. In it stayed King Alfonso XIII, the Duke of Connagaugth – son of Queen Victoria— accompanied by the British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the Dukes of Alba and Medinaceli, the Marquis of Viana, or the painter Joaquin Sorolla.
The complex has the charm of a romantic palace, very much in the taste of the time, and shares similarities with other buildings of which the Duke was the promoter, such as the Hotel Alhambra Palace, located at the foot of the Alhambra.
On June 15, 2016, it was acquired by the Láchar Town Council, which carried out its renovation and opened its doors to the public.
The Castle has a landscaped area of about 6,300 square meters, bordered by a wall that in some points reaches 4 meters high. The interior has interesting rooms, such as the library, the smoking room, the dome and the weapons room.
