The Federico García Lorca Research Center is located in a municipal building that had housed the old schools and the Town Hall of Fuente Vaqueros since the 1930s. It was inaugurated as a Research Center and Archives on June 5, 1998, the centenary of the birth of Federico García Lorca.
The Lorca Research Center in Fuente Vaqueros is an extension of the Federico García Lorca Cultural Board. Its library has a collection of more than 5,000 volumes and about fifty titles of magazines of the time, most of which are single issues or facsimile editions. This collection, which is highly specialized on Lorca’s life and work, also includes an important section dedicated to other members of his generation and to the cultural and political life of his time.
It preserves editions ranging from the late 19th century to the most current publications, of great interest to scholars and lovers of Lorca and his time.
The Archive is divided into several funds or collections, one of the most important being the collection of Lorca’s manuscripts, letters, drawings and works by some of his contemporaries such as José Caballero, Dalí, Gregorio Prieto, Benjamín Palencia, theater programs and posters, photographs, film and sound material, press, etc.
